The Department of English Language and Literature is one of the vital departments in the Faculty of Arts and was established in 2011. Its aim is to achieve a high level of scientific and research competence while keeping pace with prestigious Arab and international universities by recruiting highly qualified faculty members and developing academic plans and course quality to align with advancements in the field of specialization.

The department grants a Bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature and is committed to enhancing the academic level of its students. Hundreds of students have graduated from the department, which prepares them for effective roles in society through careers in teaching, translation, language editing, and literary criticism. The department continuously strives to provide the necessary resources to enhance its effectiveness in development and the cultivation of diverse linguistic skills. It also features a new language lab equipped with advanced specifications and technologies.

 

To prepare generations equipped with advanced skills in teaching and research in English literature and linguistics, aiming to achieve academic excellence and create an active and diverse educational and intellectual environment that motivates students and fosters significant contributions to various aspects of development.

The department’s mission focuses on supporting the university’s overall direction toward excellence at both regional and international levels by offering distinguished academic programs characterized by creativity in teaching, scientific research, and collaborative, interactive teamwork in the fields of language, literature, and linguistics. The English Department aims to provide comprehensive education and training in English language and literature, as well as theoretical and applied linguistics. It is also committed to developing students’ linguistic, intellectual, and research skills to meet the demands of the labor market.
